We thought:
We’d take a break and go away,
Now we have the chance,
There’s nothing here to worry us,
Or give a second glance.
It’s easy now, just two of us,
No kids to take in tow.
So we’d just throw a few things in
And then – off we’d go.
But first:
The car deserved a little lift,
To help it over bumps
And stronger wheels so it could cope
With any nasty thumps.
Bought new tyres, to keep us safe,
When on the dirt we go.
Put a packrack up on top,
That’s for a wheel, you know.
Booked the van to be checked out,
So the brakes don’t fail,
Faced Mr Grumpy at the shop
To redirect our mail.
And what about the newspaper that
Comes here every day?
If they piled up crooks would know
We had gone away.
Queued to ask about our power,
Water and the phone.
Tried to work the rego out
Devoid of moan ‘n groan.
And then, of course, the house alarm,
That was another thing
If trouble comes who would we say,
They must quickly ring?
On top of that the credit bill,
What to do with it?
If we just said the kids could pay,
They would have a fit.
Off we went to get a dongle
For the U-S-B
We won’t survive without the net
Nowadays, you see.
Fridge and freezer all cleared out,
Old stock got the heave,
But very soon, I really hope,
Will be time to leave.
Matt said he will have the cat and
Madi takes the dogs,
Guess that only leaves the kids to
Feed the Green Tree Frogs.
So:
We’ll take a break and go away,
Now we have the chance,
There’s nothing here to worry us,
Or give a second glance!!!!
