Cape Hillsborough – August 1st

We were in too much of a hurry to leave this morning! Last night was cold and there was a lot of dew on the camper. I used a towel to wipe down the front awning but packing down the camper was more difficult than it has ever been before. I’m glad I covered the bed with a plastic sheet because water did drip down onto it.

The driving was quite tedious for both of us today, I couldn’t believe I’d been driving for 2 hours and Rockhampton was only 100 kms behind us, it obviously took a lot longer to get back onto the Bruce Highway than I expected. There were signs along the road with questions like, “Are we there yet?” and “How far now, Dad?”. I felt like the kid asking!

As we drove towards Flaggy Rocks we saw signs telling us how wonderful their home made icecream was so I was determined to have some. I chose Banana and Cinnamon, Alex had Mango and we were told it was made with fruit from their own farm. Sadly we were disappointed it just didn’t match the icecreams we had on the wharf at Scarborough. The environment was lovely though.

We drove through Mackay and out to the Caravan Park which is right beside the beach and enclosed by National Park. A terrific environment. We walked along the beach and admired the crabs’ art work. The big rock formations look volcanic but I don’t know if they are.

The only phone access we’ve had here has been out on the beach so this will have to be posted from somewhere else later.
