Barkly Homestead
There doesn’t seem to be much to write about today. Early in the day there were a lot of road trains and big transporters.
We drove to Camooweal and the most interesting buildings were all closed. Freckleton’s General Store operated from 1943 until 2009, it’s a shame we couldn’t see inside the buildings. From the short time we spent in the town it seems as though it comes alive when the Campdraft and Rodeo comes to town.
14 Kms out of Camooweal we crossed from Queensland into the Northern Territory. For some reason prior to Camooweal there was road kill, kangaroos, eagles and a couple of feral pigs but we didn’t see any once we were in NT. We stopped at a roadside rest stop and very quickly became aware that the bush flies were back to torment us so it was a quick snack stop.
We’re now at the Barkly Homestead along with lots of other campers, it must be milling with people later in the season because there are already about 100 caravans and campers here. The place is in an ideal situation with so many travellers coming and going east and west.

Good night.
