Nitmiluk – Friday
During the night dingoes were howling, it didn’t keep me awake but I can imagine the sound would have unnerved early explorers. Despite my natural inclination I was up with the sun this morning which was a real advantage because I not only got to the showers before the multitudes but we also were on the road early. So many caravans were heading north that I was concerned we might not get a campsite at Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) if we didn’t arrive early.
We passed numerous signs to World War II airfields and at least one hospital, arriving here about 1 o’clock. I needn’t have worried about not getting a site because it’s nothing like the last time we were here, which would have been school holidays.
By the time we’d wrangled the annexe we were ready for a cool drink. I was very surprised to see that almost all the cakes in the cafe were GF. After that we enjoyed a REFRESHING swim, so different from our Bedouri water exploits.
Tomorrow is a day for restocking our food supplies so we’ll go back into Katherine and do laundry when we come back. I don’t think it will take long for the washing to dry in this weather.
