This jaunt was intended to start about a week ago and lead us along the Great Ocean Road to the Victorian High Country but extremely hot weather and bush fires still burning in eastern Victoria meant a change of plans.
We decided to take the route along the River Murray. Alex checked on Google Maps and found the best route but the manic cyborg who lives in our GPS had other ideas. She was desperate for us to drive across the city to the northern side, at one stage she even directed us to drive around in a perfect square, luckily we were ignoring her.
Our lunch break was at Karoonda, a nice little place in the Murray Mallee where Alex was able to sample some delightful fried fare.

Impressive display at Karoonda
There was a great Pioneer Park in the town.
There wasn’t a lot to see along the road to Loxton but some people obviously had fun riding motorbikes through the Mallee along tracks parallel to the road.
Our campsite at Loxton Caravan Park is lovely, the park is quiet and we were able to choose our spot because we don’t need power tonight. All the amenities here are spotless but we’ve discovered the first thing we’ve forgotten about camp kitchens. The plugs always disappear if they’re not chained to something solid!

Hello! I am new to your blog and I find this article very amazing! Do you live in Loxton?
Hi, we were passing through Loxton. I’m glad you enjoyed the post, we have no definite plans at the moment to be on the road again so it might be a while before there are any new posts. 🙂
Great to see you’re off again! Merbein must have changed a lot in the decades since I was there. So you’re not going to the ADL Cup! lol.
I’m more likely to go the thousand kms to the Oodnadatta Camel Races than the Adelaide Cup! 🙂
Have a wonderful time in Loxton.
Thanks Cindy, now at a place called, Mathourn, see if you can find that one. 🙂
Lynette and David parked right down on the sand, .the facilities are excellent I am sure that your youthfullness will have you looking forward to the excellent children’s playground at the roundabout in the town.
.
No playground sessions for us Kit but it was a nice park. We saw the riverfront campsites after we were all set up.
